May 27, 2026 at 9:01 AMCargoBeamer has increased the frequency of its intermodal service between Calais and Perpignan from four to six weekly round trips. This expansion occurs in two phases: a fifth round trip was added in April 2026, followed by a sixth in June of this year. With the introduction of the sixth departure, the service now offers daily connections in both directions from Monday to Saturday. This makes it one of the central intermodal offerings for semi-trailers in the North-South corridor within France. Since December 2025, the route has been operated in collaboration with Lineas as the partner for rail transport.
The service runs between the CargoBeamer terminal in Calais and the Perpignan Saint Charles Conteneur terminal, maintaining a transit time of approximately 28 hours. The connection is available for both craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers, refrigerated trailers, ADR and tank units, as well as containers. For each transported unit, the service reduces CO₂ emissions by about 93%, which corresponds to more than 1,100 kg of CO₂ compared to diesel road transport.
Growing Demand for Intermodal Solutions in France
The increase in frequency on the Calais – Perpignan route reflects a growing interest in the intermodal transport of semi-trailers between the north and south of France. From Calais, road freight companies can extend their journey via the Eurotunnel and several maritime connections to the United Kingdom or by road to Northern France and Belgium. At the southern end, the proximity of the Perpignan terminal to the Spanish border allows CargoBeamer to serve customers with transport flows in and out of the Greater Barcelona area.
Boris Timm, COO of CargoBeamer, commented on the developments: “We are pleased with the sustainable growth we are experiencing on the Calais – Perpignan route. CargoBeamer has established itself as one of the leading intermodal operators for semi-trailers and containers in France. This expansion to six weekly round trips further strengthens our position in France. The reach of the corridor from the Spanish border to the English Channel and beyond plays an important role in our network, and we plan to further expand our network in France in the future.”
