Steel railway construction, with large metal rails being welded and positioned by heavy machinery and construction teams.
The DB InfraGO AG has completed the renovation work on the railway line between Hagen, Wuppertal, and Cologne. Starting tonight at 9 PM, regional, long-distance, and freight trains can once again use the route. This was announced at a closing event in Leverkusen, attended by Philipp Nagl, CEO of DB InfraGO, and Oliver Krischer, Minister for Environment, Conservation, and Transport of North Rhine-Westphalia, among others.
Work on the line
The renovation work covered a distance of approximately 65 kilometers. Over 550 employees from DB and the involved construction companies have been working since February 6 to renew or repair tracks, switches, and overhead lines. Additionally, twelve train stations were renovated. During the five-month construction period, the company established diversions and replacement services to continue transporting passengers and freight to their destinations.
According to DB InfraGO, the cost forecast for the renovation has also been reduced by a mid-double-digit million amount. This suggests that the renovation is expected to be less expensive than originally planned. However, the final costs will only be determined once all billing and claims have been completed.
