Oct 10, 2025 at 8:06 PMMitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (Mitsubishi Fuso) and Hino Motors Ltd. (Hino) announce the name of the new holding company “ARCHION,” which is set to operationally launch on April 1, 2026, based on the final agreement for the corporate merger dated June 10, 2025, between Daimler Truck AG (Daimler Truck) and Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota).
(Leinfeld-Echterdingen) The name ARCHION embodies the essence of “Arches” and represents the connection between the companies and their stakeholders as well as among themselves. “Eons” signifies shaping the future of transportation and a better life for the next generation. Together, these concepts have been brought together to form ARCHION.
With the goal of ‘Shaping the Future of Commercial Mobility,’ ARCHION embodies the shared objective of Hino and Mitsubishi Fuso, Daimler Truck, and Toyota to contribute to a prosperous society through mobility. The new company name reflects the commitment to enhance efficiency through integration, strengthen competitiveness, and offer safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly vehicles. At the same time, the ARCHION Group (ARCHION Corporation as the holding company, Mitsubishi and Hino as operating companies) aims to increase the societal value of mobility.
In this context, the ARCHION Group announces the first potential areas for synergy initiatives:
Integrated Platform Strategy by Leveraging Strengths
The ARCHION Group is pursuing an integrated platform strategy aimed at enhancing competitiveness and utilizing the strengths of both companies to build a powerful and market-oriented product portfolio under their respective brands. The companies will explore opportunities to synergistically utilize their platforms for heavy, medium, and light commercial vehicles to further enhance the competitiveness of their products, realize cost advantages, and enable faster product launches. Additionally, by utilizing models from both brands, a more comprehensive product portfolio will be created for the benefit of customers, while preserving the respective brand characteristics.
Efficiency and Competitiveness through Economies of Scale
Both companies will actively promote the integration and streamlining of development, procurement, production, and logistics. The goal is to strengthen the integrated platform strategy and sustainably increase efficiency through optimally coordinated resource utilization. The consolidation of development activities helps avoid duplicate investments and brings product platforms together in a timely manner – thus laying the foundation for future innovations.
The pooling of purchasing power enables significant cost savings in numerous direct and indirect procurement areas. Furthermore, the companies aim for additional efficiency improvements by leveraging economies of scale arising from synergies of their platforms. Additionally, optimizing production sites and logistics networks is expected to contribute to improvements in costs, quality, and delivery times. By the end of 2028, the five Japanese truck production sites will be consolidated into three locations: Kawasaki Plant (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Koga Plant (Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture), and Nitta Plant (Ota City, Gunma Prefecture). Hino’s Hamura Plant will be transferred to Toyota Motor Corporation, as announced on June 10, 2025. Mitsubishi Fuso’s Nakatsu Plant will be consolidated into the Kawasaki Plant.
The ARCHION Group also intends to advance the consolidation of indirect functions to reduce overlaps and further enhance both cost efficiency and operational excellence.
Growth through Business Transformation and CASE
The resources achieved through integration and efficiency will be partially directed towards forward-looking investments in the CASE area (Connected – Autonomous & Automated – Shared – Electric). This will enable the ARCHION Group to lay the foundation for sustainable growth and improved profitability while meeting the expectations of customers, shareholders, and society. Furthermore, by leveraging technological capital and the economies of scale of the Toyota and Daimler Truck networks, the company will develop market-leading products across all ZEV segments.
In particular, in the hydrogen sector, the ARCHION Group relies on the combined expertise and close collaboration of Toyota and Daimler Truck for top-notch fuel cell technology. The pooled resources and competencies will also accelerate advancements in autonomous driving. In connected mobility, Mitsubishi Fuso and Hino will specifically develop solution offerings and effectively utilize fleet data for greater customer benefit.
Building on the synergies described above, both independent brands “FUSO” and “HINO” will enhance their respective value in the market through healthy competition. This will enable the ARCHION Group to offer customers higher-quality products and continue to make a sustainable contribution to a variety of stakeholders.
