May 27, 2026 at 9:39 AMThe CMA CGM Group has taken over the „CMA CGM NOTRE DAME,“ which, according to the company, is the largest container ship currently sailing under the French flag and powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ship has begun its maiden voyage in Shanghai, China, and is expected to arrive in Europe in early July. The christening of the ship is scheduled for July 2 in Le Havre.
Technological features and area of operation
The „CMA CGM NOTRE DAME“ is equipped, according to CMA CGM, with artificial intelligence systems, digital navigation aids, and technologies to improve energy efficiency. These are intended not only to optimize the ship’s operational performance but also to contribute to the decarbonization of maritime transport. With a length of 400 m, a width of 62 m, and a height of 75 m, the ship can transport up to 24,212 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units).
The ship will be deployed as part of the French Asia Line (FAL), a service of CMA CGM that connects Asia with Northern Europe. The route includes ports such as Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Tanger Med. According to the company, this trade route is considered one of the key corridors for international trade and plays a vital role in supplying Europe.
