Riga Airport achieves profit increase in 2025
May 29, 2026 at 10:05 AMThe technology company Wärtsilä has equipped a new training center of Novatug in Terneuzen, Netherlands, with a modern simulation facility. This facility aims to enhance safety and efficiency in tug operations and improve the training of tug captains, as stated by Wärtsilä. The simulation facility was developed in collaboration with Novatug, a division of Multraship Towage & Salvage, and includes various components, such as full mission simulators, mixed-reality systems, an instructor workstation, and a debriefing room. Another feature of the facility is the digital model of a Carrousel Rave Tug (CRT), specifically designed for training tug captains.
Optimization of tug operations
According to the company, the new simulation facility allows for precise modeling of Novatug’s CRT, which is expected to improve the control of tugs during maneuvering in the harbor. The CRT is designed to address the challenges of harbor approaches for very large and ultra-large cargo ships. By optimizing steering and braking performance in confined spaces, the CRT contributes to reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
