Leadership change at South Africa’s airports
May 18, 2026 at 7:52 AMClaire Fontaine, who has been with Renault Trucks for ten years, has been appointed the new managing director for the Grand Lyon area. She will be responsible for five branches in the Lyon region and will lead a team of 200 employees. Her main tasks include ensuring the safety and engagement of her teams, consolidating the brand’s market leadership in the region, and advancing the electrification of the vehicle fleet.
Fontaine, a graduate of EDHEC Business School in Lille, discovered her passion for the industry during an internship at Michelin in the USA. She describes her fascination with the technical aspects of the products and their societal relevance: “There is a different meaning in marketing than just achieving sales targets.” Her commitment to the French industry is also strong. “I have the desire and pride to work in the French industry and to show that we can do it, and above all, do it well,” Fontaine states.
In 2016, she moved to Lyon and joined Renault Trucks. After five years in various marketing positions at headquarters, she was appointed to the network. In 2022, she took on the role of After-Sales Director at Renault Trucks Grand Lyon, where she led a team of 120 people. She will assume the position of managing director in early 2026.
Market Leadership and Team Well-Being
Renault Trucks Grand Lyon currently holds a market share of nearly 38% in the region. Fontaine sees the challenge as consolidating this leadership position and establishing Grand Lyon as a pioneer for new concepts of the brand. “Our task is to be the showcase for everything Renault Trucks will implement and to motivate the network to follow the same path,” she explains.
A central concern for Fontaine is the well-being of her employees. In a work environment where safety is the top priority, she places the health of her teams first. “My top priority will always be the health and safety of my teams. The best way to avoid recruitment issues is to retain our employees. My secret in management is listening: spending time with each person to ensure that everyone has the right position, the right training, and the right skills. Relying on people makes the difference.”
Supporting the Energy Transition
In close collaboration with the Metropolis of Lyon, Renault Trucks Grand Lyon recently opened a workshop at the Hôtel Logistique Urbain (HLU) in the Édouard-Herriot port in Gerland. This pilot site, Renault Trucks City, supports logistics companies in decarbonizing the last mile and provides maintenance for a mixed fleet (thermal and electric). This concept is also intended to be implemented in other regions.
Additionally, further projects are in planning, including a repair service directly at the customer’s location, called “Man in the Van,” as well as partnerships, for example with EDF, to promote the use of electric vehicles among transport companies. “The electrification of the fleet interests me the most today: I want to be on-site, talk to customers, and be at the center of the organizations that need to transform,” concludes Claire Fontaine.
