May 18, 2026 at 8:06 AMThe Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has announced that the Chief Executive Officer, Mpumi Mpofu, will conclude her term on June 30, 2026, upon the expiration of her fixed-term contract. Mpofu has served in this position for six years, leading the company through a challenging phase in the global aviation industry.
Irvin Phenyane, the chairman of the ACSA board, praised Mpofu’s achievements: “She has guided the organization through an unprecedented time in the global aviation sector and oversaw ACSA’s operational and financial recovery while advancing key strategic initiatives that have strengthened the company’s long-term position.” Phenyane emphasized that the board and the CEO have agreed on a carefully planned handover that includes clear guidelines and mutual cooperation.
Effective July 1, 2026, Charles Shilowa has been appointed as interim CEO. Shilowa currently serves as Group Executive for Capital Infrastructure and Asset Management at ACSA, a position he has held since July 2023. Previously, he held several senior positions at Rand Merchant Bank, the South African Revenue Services, Sasol Technology, and Unilever. In his new role, Shilowa will work closely with the board to ensure continuity of leadership and the orderly management of the transition while the board initiates a formal process to appoint a permanent CEO.
