According to recent data, the total value of cross-border freight amounted to $130.8 billion, as reported by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Development of transportation modes
In detail, freight traffic between the United States and Canada decreased by 9.0% to a value of $57.5 billion. In contrast, freight traffic between the United States and Mexico rose to $73.2 billion, representing an increase of 7.1%.
The transportation modes themselves show different trends. Trucking transported goods valued at $87.2 billion, reflecting an increase of 0.7% compared to the previous year. In contrast, railroads recorded a decline of 7.3%, transporting goods worth $14.0 billion. Pipelines also experienced a decrease of 10.2%, carrying freight valued at $8.9 billion.
