Forecast: Intelligent transportation systems market to grow by 2031
Jul 6, 2026 at 9:29 AMCentralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has signed a contract with Industria Project to create the design documentation for another part of the cargo zone at the new Warsaw airport, Cargo 3. This is the third contract awarded for the planning of this area of the future airport. The airport is scheduled to open in 2032.
Development of cargo infrastructure
The Cargo 3 project includes the development of a complex of facilities as well as the supporting infrastructure for a ground handling service provider responsible for the comprehensive handling of cargo operations on the airport apron. This includes both export and import cargo. The value of the contract amounts to approximately 1.5 million EUR (net).
The aim of the investment is to create a cargo transshipment facility that enables the transport of goods both from external facilities to aircraft and vice versa. The facility will combine storage, transshipment, and logistics functions to minimize storage time while maximizing throughput. This is crucial for the smooth handling of air freight services.
Strategic location and future expansions
The building will be constructed in the central-western part of the airport, within the area designated for cargo operations. The location, directly at the boundary between the security area and the public area, allows for convenient access to both the operational area of the airport and the overarching transport network. This will support the efficient movement of cargo and goods and promote transport operations both within the airport and beyond. The approved plans also foresee future expansion.
The contract also includes the planning of a modern, functional, and secure building for the services responsible for the security and inspection control of air cargo. The service building will be strategically placed at the interface between the operational area of the airport and the public area. This location provides an optimal base for inspection, logistics, and administrative activities related to customs clearance while ensuring efficient access to airport infrastructure as well as to areas serving airlines, customs agents, and public authorities.
The first two contracts for the planning of the infrastructure for Cargo 1 and Cargo 2 were awarded to Cundall Polska and Budoprojekt Cooperative Enterprise, respectively. The planning work for the cargo zone has been divided into three packages to account for the scope of the project and the different characteristics of the planned infrastructure. According to the project schedule, the cargo facilities are expected to be operational by the end of 2031.
