DSV launches electric logistics in Chile
May 29, 2026 at 1:16 PMUPS has announced an investment of nearly $50 million to optimize logistics for North American automotive and industrial manufacturers. This initiative aims to enhance resilience and precision in supply chains, which are currently under pressure from automation, geopolitical changes, and evolving regulatory requirements.
Expansion of Air Freight Capacity in North America
In addition to this investment, UPS has announced the expansion of its North American Air Freight (NAAF) capacity. Starting in August, a timely heavy air freight service to and from Mexico will be offered, expanding coverage in North America. This new service is intended to particularly support the production of critical supply chains. Unlike fragmented models that require multiple providers, UPS integrates transportation, customs clearance, and warehousing into a single solution. This is designed to reduce handovers and simplify cross-border shipping.
Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer Matt Guffey (photo) stated, “Our automotive and industrial customers are looking for a simple solution for their logistics. They need reliability, transparency, and a partner that understands their supply chains – from start to finish, today and in the future.”
The new air freight options provide manufacturers with the ability to transport high-quality, time-sensitive parts more quickly and predictably. This leads to fewer delays at the border and improves visibility of shipments from the point of origin to the destination.
Modernization of the Network for Improved Efficiency
In recent years, UPS has modernized its network to enhance reliability, visibility, and speed. This has delivered measurable results for all customers, including automotive and industrial manufacturers. Improvements include competitive pricing for less-than-truckload shipments, an expanded reach for early delivery, and enhanced visibility through automation in a large portion of UPS facilities.
UPS has also established a specialized team of over 300 experts in automotive and industrial manufacturing, supported by thousands of employees in the network. This combination of investments in the network and industry-specific expertise comes at a critical time as supply chain performance becomes increasingly important for manufacturers worldwide.
