Azul Logística expands logistics services worldwide
May 8, 2026 at 9:03 AMContship has put the first fully electric port tractor into operation at the La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT). This introduction is part of a pilot project aimed at advancing the electrification of the tractor fleet and reducing direct emissions in port operations, as the company reports. The new tractor will be used by Hannibal for internal shuttle activities within the terminal.
Step towards decarbonization
The decision to use the fully electric port tractor aligns with Contship’s sustainability strategy. The company considers the deployment of electric tractors advantageous in terminal environments, as they operate close to the required charging infrastructure. Additionally, the frequent start-stop cycles would allow for efficient use of regenerative braking, which is intended to optimize energy consumption.
