Jun 24, 2026 at 10:45 AMGEODIS has successfully conducted a series of international tests with sustainable, paper-based thermal covers for air freight transport of pharmaceutical products. This initiative, developed in collaboration with a global pharmaceutical company, aims to meet the growing demand for temperature-controlled logistics solutions that also align with sustainability goals.
As part of the tests, two paper-based thermal cover solutions, Solaris 5 and Solaris 10, were introduced. These solutions provide a recyclable alternative to conventional aluminum and foil packaging. Since September 2025, a total of 86 test shipments have been successfully conducted in countries such as India, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.
The tests demonstrated that the thermal covers are capable of maintaining temperature integrity in the range of +2°C to +25°C, even under extreme weather conditions that can occur during handling and transport at airports. Temperatures varied from -15°C in South Korea to over 40°C in India, with no critical temperature deviations observed during transport.
Integration of temperature control measures
To support operations, the logistics provider combined various temperature-controlled measures along the supply chain. These include temperature-controlled vehicles, specialized pharmaceutical services from airlines, refrigerated trucks, and temperature-controlled warehouses. This integrated approach helped ensure the safe transport and integrity of sensitive pharmaceutical products throughout the entire journey.
Tony Doyle, Key Account Manager at GEODIS in the UK, stated: “This project reflects the close collaboration between our teams and the customer to identify more sustainable solutions for pharmaceutical logistics.” The results of these tests provide valuable operational feedback on the use of recyclable thermal protection for temperature-sensitive shipments.
GEODIS is committed to working closely with its customers to develop tailored logistics solutions that align with their operational and sustainability goals, and describes this initiative as “a strong example of this collaborative approach.”
