Jul 7, 2020 at 6:03 AMFiege Air Cargo Logistics (FACL) takes over parts of the physical cargo handling at the Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC). The takeover will occur in several phases by mid-2021. Through this cooperation, an increase in quality is expected.
(Frankfurt) At the Lufthansa Cargo Center (LCC) in Frankfurt, “Fiege Air Cargo Logistics GmbH & Co. KG” (FACL) will take over the operational handling and coordination of inbound and outbound standard shipments in several phases by mid-2021. The physical cargo handling processes at the LCC have largely been outsourced to various external service providers for many years.
As part of the digitalization, the process landscape at the LCC has been standardized across the board and consistently aligned with the material flow. “Our future partner brings additional competencies in terms of digitalization as well as efficient design and implementation of warehouse processes. With the new cooperation model, we simultaneously reduce the number of direct interfaces for Lufthansa Cargo and can thus optimally leverage the advantages of digitalization. FACL will be an important partner for us regarding physical handling at the Frankfurt hub,” explains Dr. Mohammad Ali Seiraffi, Lufthansa Cargo Vice President Handling Frankfurt and head of the LCC.
“We look forward to contributing our expertise in digitalization to the Lufthansa Cargo Center as part of a long-term cooperation. We will help further enhance operational quality and synchronize the logistics processes in ground handling with the modernized IT infrastructure of the LCC,” says Felix Scherberich, Managing Director at Fiege.
Planning and control remain with Lufthansa Cargo
The planning and control of the cargo processes, as well as the overall responsibility for the processes, will continue to remain in the hands of Lufthansa Cargo. For the customers of the cargo airline, there will be no changes due to the new cooperation.
Felix Scherberich and Benjamin Looser are responsible as managing directors for the newly founded company of the Fiege Group. There, FACL is a subsidiary in the “Industry and Tires” business area of the Fiege Logistics Foundation. The focus of the Fiege Group is on contract logistics with a variety of well-known customers.
