CargoTech starts strong in the year
May 26, 2026 at 9:11 AMIAG Cargo has announced two new flight routes set to launch in June 2026. These new routes between Madrid and Monterrey, as well as between Barcelona and Lima, aim to strengthen trade relations between Europe and Latin America. The Madrid to Monterrey connection will commence on June 2, 2026, and is the first direct link from IAG Cargo between Spain and northern Mexico. This route opens new opportunities for customers looking to transport goods between Europe and one of the region’s major industrial centers.
Monterrey is a key location for the manufacturing industry, particularly in the automotive, aerospace, and high-tech sectors. The city plays a central role in the nearshoring process to North America. The new connection is part of IAG Cargo’s expanded summer flight schedule, which includes a total of 275 weekly connections with wide-body aircraft from the Spanish hubs to destinations in North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Additionally, a new thrice-weekly service from Barcelona to Lima will be introduced on June 3, 2026. This route is intended to support trade between Spain and Peru, particularly in the area of perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, and other valuable shipments.
Camilo Garcia Cervera, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of IAG Cargo, commented on the new routes: „Latin America remains one of the most important regions in global air freight, with strong and diverse trade flows connecting producers, manufacturers, and consumers across continents. These new routes from Madrid and Barcelona extend the reach of our Spanish hubs and reinforce Spain’s role as a key gateway for freight between the region and Europe. Particularly, the new Madrid-Monterrey connection creates a direct link that supports trade between Europe and northern Mexico for the first time.“
IAG Cargo offers extensive global connections across six continents through its hubs in London, Madrid, Dublin, and Barcelona. London alone provides capacity for over 700 weekly wide-body flights, while Dublin serves as a key transatlantic gateway with around 100 weekly wide-body rotations.
