May 26, 2026 at 3:43 PMThe Director of the Port Autonome d’Abidjan (PAA), Kassoum Traoré, received a Belgian delegation on May 19, 2026, consisting of representatives from the development agency Enabel and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The aim of the meeting was to strengthen strategic partnerships in the areas of port, logistics, and environment.
During the discussions, Tom Dedeurwaerder, the country director of Enabel, congratulated Traoré on his appointment and presented several projects currently being implemented in Ivory Coast. These initiatives focus on sustainable sectors, the energetic use of biomass, and programs for socioeconomic reintegration.
Cooperation perspectives in focus
The discussions primarily revolved around collaboration opportunities regarding the modernization of the Port of Abidjan. Key topics included ecological transformation, the digitization of port operations, and the improvement of governance structures. Both sides discussed mechanisms to reduce the environmental impact of port activities. This includes the gradual integration of international standards such as EcoPorts, air quality monitoring, and the development of sustainable port practices.
Another central point of the discussions was digital transformation. The goal is to support the Port Autonome d’Abidjan in improving its governance tools, optimizing logistical processes, and increasing operational efficiency.
Traoré expressed positive sentiments about the interest of Enabel and the Port of Antwerp in the Port Autonome d’Abidjan as well as in the development of port infrastructures and competencies in Africa. He reaffirmed the PAA’s intention to strengthen technical and institutional partnerships that support modernization efforts and enhance the competitiveness of the Port of Abidjan.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding of the necessity to accelerate the implementation of structuring projects to create a more efficient and sustainable port that aligns with international standards.
