Leadership change at CMC announced
Apr 16, 2026 at 7:53 AMAnemoi Marine Technologies and Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (Nacks) have developed new integrated solutions for wind-assisted propulsion systems on ultramax bulk carriers. Two variants for ships with 60,000 – 65,000 dwt have now received the approval in principle (aip) from ClassNK.
The concepts utilise next-generation rotor sails, with diameters of 3.5 m that are 24.5 m high. One design features a single sail on the forecastle, while the second employs a rail system to install up to three rotor sails on a deck. The aim is to simplify installation processes and increase the fuel-savings potential.
The development builds on experiences from previous projects, including the first installation on a bulk carrier in 2018. At the same time, the collaboration with Nacks strengthens Anemoi’s presence in Chinese shipyards, which are gaining a growing share of new bulk carrier construction.
The aip confirms the technical feasibility, taking into account stability, safety and energy efficiency, according to international standards.
