Apr 30, 2026 at 9:45 AMPorts in the Asia-Pacific region are emerging as key players in the development of markets for hydrogen and e-fuels, according to an analysis by Accelleron. They are pursuing a cross-sector approach that connects energy, industry and shipping.
Although modern ships are already designed for alternative fuels such as methanol or ammonia, the production of these energy carriers remains limited, reports Accelleron, a provider of turbochargers, fuel injection and digital solutions for the shipping and energy sectors.
Reasons include high investment costs and fragmented demand. However, by consolidating demand from various industries, larger projects and more efficient infrastructure are being created.
Ports such as Singapore, Yokohama, Busan and Shanghai are advancing pilot projects and building corresponding capacities. At the same time, initial supply chains for hydrogen and e-fuels are emerging, supported by industrial applications on land.
This creates the foundation for future use in shipping and simultaneously strengthens the energy supply of the region.
