Intermodal freight transport is experiencing significant growth
Jan 9, 2026 at 10:24 AMCHAMP Cargosystems, a company of the SITA Group, has announced the appointment of Manuel Galindo as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This decision takes effect immediately and marks a significant step in the strategic development of the company.
Manuel Galindo brings extensive experience in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) as well as in air freight and logistics technology. He was a co-founder of WebCargo, a platform for managing air freight rates and digital offers, which he led until its acquisition by Freightos in 2016. After the acquisition, Galindo continued his role as CEO of WebCargo and advanced the digital development of the platform, particularly regarding the integration between airlines and forwarders. Under his leadership, WebCargo expanded its offerings beyond rate management and evolved into the leading solution for digital bookings in the global air freight sector.
Additionally, Galindo was part of the leadership team at Freightos and later took on the role of Chief Revenue Officer, where he was responsible for the global commercial strategy at the group level.
Strategic Direction and Goals
In his new position as CEO of CHAMP, Galindo is pursuing a long-term, platform-oriented strategy that focuses on the changing needs of the air freight market. His strategic priorities include strengthening the CHAMP neo platform, improving interoperability between airlines and partners, and supporting customers in an increasingly standardized, digital, and data-driven operational environment. CHAMP aims to solidify its role as a trusted technology partner in the global air freight ecosystem.
David Lavorel, CEO of the SITA Group, commented on Galindo’s appointment: “Manuel takes on this role at a critical time for the air freight industry. With an IATA forecast predicting a global air freight demand growth of 2.6% in 2026 to approximately 71.6 million tons compared to 70 million tons in 2025, the pressure on airlines, handlers, and forwarders to scale efficiently has never been greater. Given the accelerated digitization and increasing operational complexity, the industry is more reliant than ever on robust, flexible, and seamlessly connected platforms to keep global supply chains running. Together with the CHAMP leadership team, Manuel is well-positioned to guide the organization through the next phase of growth and support the industry in meeting rising digital, operational, and scalable demands.”
Manuel Galindo stated: “I look forward to building on the strong strategic foundation laid by Chris. My focus is on strengthening CHAMP’s position as a highly trusted, mission-critical technology partner for the global air freight community. Our industry is evolving rapidly, and we are determined to provide the resilient, interoperable, and forward-looking solutions that our customers need to succeed in this new digital era.”
Galindo succeeds Chris McDermott, who served as CEO since October 2020 and led a significant strategic realignment and transformation of the company during his tenure.
