Fiege Group Celebrates 150th Anniversary with Festive Ceremony
Sep 14, 2023 at 9:22 PMThe Berlin-based GreenTech startup Swobbee is participating in an innovative logistics project of the mobility department of the Bavarian capital. For the recently launched first cargo logistics hub in Munich, Swobbee has now set up a battery swapping station.
(Berlin/Munich) The new logistics center, which serves as a platform for various logistics companies, is managed by P + R Park & Ride GmbH, a service company of the city of Munich. The cargo logistics hub is located on the centrally located Viehhof site and consists of several boxes serving as temporary storage as well as parking and charging areas. From there, five logistics service providers are currently delivering packages to private individuals and goods and pallets to companies, craft businesses, and construction sites using state-of-the-art electric cargo bikes. In light of increasing shipment numbers, this approach alleviates the highly dense urban areas and further enhances the attractiveness of Munich as a location. The pioneering project serves as a basis for the city of Munich to plan a hub network, for which EU funding will also be provided.
The project is part of the economic transport strategy “Urban Logistics”
The smart battery swapping station from Swobbee ensures efficient use of the electrically powered cargo bikes. In just a few seconds, logistics companies can swap the empty batteries of their vehicles for fully charged ones, ensuring energy supply around the clock. With this battery-as-a-service approach, companies can fully concentrate on their core business without having to build and operate their own costly charging infrastructure, maintain spare batteries, or endure downtime of the delivery bikes due to charging.
Cargo logistics hub confirms Munich’s strength in innovation
Thomas Duscha, co-founder and CEO of Swobbee, adds: “Cargo bikes are an essential part of the urban mobility transition. With the cargo logistics hub, Munich once again confirms its strength in innovation and its reputation as a laboratory for the future. We are very pleased to contribute with our Swobbee stations to making the logistics processes of the involved companies, including our long-standing partner Hermes, even more efficient and sustainable on the last mile.”
