The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has granted a type approval certificate to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) in Kolkata for a range of hull and piping valves. These valves are designed for use on defense and commercial vessels, according to the IRS.
The certified products, made from nickel aluminum bronze and stainless steel, have been tested in accordance with the applicable IRS guidelines. The certification confirms, according to the IRS, the suitability of the valves for demanding maritime operating conditions in terms of their reliability, durability, and corrosion resistance.
Promotion of domestic production
This certification initiative aims to promote the use of type-approved ship equipment and strengthen production capacities in the country’s shipping sector. The approval is regarded by the IRS as an important step in the implementation of the „Make in India“ initiative, which aims to support India’s self-reliance in the field of maritime and defense shipbuilding components.
