Jul 10, 2026 at 11:44 AMOn Wednesday, July 8, the „CMA CGM Notre Dame“ made its inaugural call at the Port of Rotterdam. The ship, which was launched in Le Havre, sails under the French flag and is among the largest container ships in the world, according to the port. With an LNG tank capacity of 18,600 m³, it is currently the largest container ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to the manufacturer. In addition to LNG, the „CMA CGM Notre Dame“ can also be powered by bio-LNG and, in the future, by synthetic fuels such as e-methane.
Technical details and capacity
The „CMA CGM Notre Dame“ has a capacity of 24,212 TEU, including 1,600 refrigerated containers. With a length of nearly 400 meters and a width of 61 meters, it is, according to the port, the largest container ship sailing under the French flag.
During its stay in Rotterdam, the „CMA CGM Notre Dame“ received bio-LNG for the first time, derived from organic waste from agriculture and agribusiness in Europe. Bio-LNG, also known as liquefied biomethane, is a fuel that, according to the Port of Rotterdam, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 67% over its entire lifecycle compared to fossil fuels.
