IMO appoints coordinators for regional offices
Jul 9, 2026 at 7:47 AMThe chemical company LyondellBasell, in collaboration with Mondelez International, has introduced a new packaging solution for Marabou chocolate bars. This development, which also involves the participation of Amcor and Taghleef Industries, aims to promote recycled materials in the food packaging industry. The packaging is made from „LYB Circulen Revive polymers,“ which are produced entirely from recycled materials. According to a statement from LyondellBasell, these materials are determined through an „ISCC PLUS“-certified mass balance approach, enabling Mondelez to offer packaging with a recycling content of 75%.
The initiative aims, according to the company, to convert hard-to-recycle mixed plastic waste into materials for food packaging. Yvonne van der Laan, Executive Vice President for Sustainable Solutions and Technology Business at LyondellBasell, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: „Our partnership with Mondelez highlights our shared vision for the future and underscores our ability to provide innovative, high-quality circular solutions tailored to demanding specifications.“
Expansion of circular solutions
LyondellBasell plans to further expand its circular solutions. One element of this strategy is the planned supply of polymers for Marabou packaging through the „MoReTec -1 facility.“ This, according to the company, is the first commercial-scale catalytic recycling plant currently being constructed in Wesseling, Germany. Upon its commissioning, „MoReTec -1“ is expected to enhance access to circular raw materials within the LYB ecosystem. This ecosystem connects sorting and recycling infrastructures with the company’s existing cracker and polymerization facilities.
