Jun 25, 2026 at 6:35 AMThe European Barge Union (EBU) has elected a new president. Matthieu Blanc (l.) takes over the position from Philippe Grulois. The Belgian served as president for the past two years. The decision was made during a meeting of the EBU board in Strasbourg.
Matthieu Blanc is not only a board member of the French association E2F Entreprises Fluviales de France but also the CEO of CFT Compagnie Fluviale de Transport. With his experience in the industry, he will lead the EBU in the coming years. Martin Staats, the president of the Federal Association of German Inland Navigation (BDB) and managing director of the cooperative MSG, has been appointed as vice president. In this role, he will serve as Blanc’s designated successor in two years, according to the EBU’s statutes.
Tasks and goals of the EBU
The EBU has set several goals, including improving relations with the European Parliament. Another focus is on promoting the energy transition and implementing the objectives arising from the European Union’s „Green Deal.“ These initiatives are crucial for the further development of the inland navigation sector in Europe.
In a statement, the EBU praised Grulois’s achievements during his tenure. His contributions have strengthened the collaboration of the inland navigation sector with European and international institutions.
