Jun 11, 2026 at 8:03 AMGulftainer has announced the development of the Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor, a new logistics facility covering an area of 150 hectares, which is expected to provide an annual capacity of 1.5 million TEU. This facility will be positioned as a strategic hub between the east coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the mainland, located just 50 km from the Port of Khorfakkan.
Integration into existing infrastructure
The Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor is intended to function as an extension of the Khorfakkan Port and is designed as a modern, fully digitized logistics system. The development is supported by the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, which promotes transformative projects to enhance supply chain efficiency. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in the UAE’s logistics strategy and aims to connect the Port of Khorfakkan with the Etihad Rail network to serve the entire Arabian Peninsula.
Farid Belbouab, CEO of Gulftainer, commented on the new trade corridor:
“The Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor will be more than just a development; it is a vital economic engine for the Emirate of Sharjah, the UAE, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). By combining the deep-water access of Khorfakkan Port with the freight capacity of Etihad Rail and the support of a modern digital infrastructure, Gulftainer will shape the new trade corridor in the Middle East.”
Competitive advantages for businesses
The new trade corridor will provide significant competitive advantages to businesses and partners by enabling cost efficiencies and operational improvements in domestic transport. The hub is designed as a comprehensive, purpose-built platform that includes a large Inland Container Yard (ICY) and an Empty Depot, as well as a high-speed Container Freight Station (CFS). These facilities are intended to facilitate rapid consolidation of various types of cargo for transport to the port and provide integration with Etihad Rail for high-capacity bulk freight transport to Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Belbouab added:
“We offer global manufacturers and distributors a robust ecosystem that provides unparalleled agility, risk-mitigated routes, and significant cost efficiencies. This facility will be a place where resilience meets innovation, binding global shipping volumes to our shores and creating lasting and highly efficient supply chains for the entire GCC.”
The Al Dhaid Multi-Modal Trade Corridor represents a strategic public-private partnership with the Sharjah Ports Authority. The hub is designed as a “Single-Window” clearance environment to accelerate regional trade and ensure that Sharjah remains at the forefront of global logistics transformation. This initiative complements Gulftainer’s growing inland network in Sharjah, which also includes the Sajaa Dry Port, opened earlier this year as the largest bonded dry port in the UAE.
