May 28, 2026 at 11:10 AMThe FIATA has requested a review of the changes to the framework of the Direct Air Waybill (DAWB) that were recently adopted at the Cargo Agency Conference (CAC) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This request is made within the framework of the IATA-FIATA Consultative Council (IFCC) and pertains to Resolution 801c, Article 4.2. The changes are set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
In a statement, the association of international freight forwarders expresses concerns regarding the inadequate consultation on the legal, operational, and insurance implications of the proposed measures. The organization points out that there are growing legal uncertainties among industry stakeholders and that stability is needed in an already disrupted global air freight market. The FIATA calls for a review of the changes to allow for a structured reassessment by the industry. Such far-reaching changes require an inclusive and consensus-based development among the affected stakeholders.
The FIATA concludes by stating that it remains committed to constructive dialogue with IATA and all stakeholders to support the development of balanced and operationally feasible solutions that take legitimate industry considerations into account while enhancing clarity, predictability, and resilience in the global air freight system.
