PD Ports purchases third LPS 550 crane
May 13, 2026 at 12:58 PMThe Vienna Chamber of Commerce has announced that the number of participants in the „Zero Emission Transport“ (ZET) project has risen to 50 companies. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the City of Vienna, aims to make commercial transport emission-free. Since the project started in June 2024, the participating companies have already covered nearly 5.1 million kilometers emission-free. This has resulted in savings of around 2,000 tons of CO2 equivalents and over 1 ton of nitrogen oxides. This amount of CO2 corresponds to what approximately 150 hectares of forest would absorb in a year.
Sustainable mobility in commercial transport
Walter Ruck (2nd from left), President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes the importance of the project for business practice: „Our companies demonstrate that climate-friendly mobility in commercial transport is no longer just a future topic, but already works in everyday life.“ The project includes not only cars and delivery vans but also fully electric buses, garbage trucks, and trucks with loading cranes. Ruck highlights that the demand for emission-free special vehicles in the market is increasing, indicating a growing interest among companies.
Cooperation between city and business
Vienna’s Mayor Michael Ludwig (center) emphasizes the successful collaboration between the city and the Chamber of Commerce: „The fact that 50 companies are now participating in ‚Zero Emission Transport‘ impressively shows how successful the close cooperation is. Together with the businesses, we are consistently advancing the climate-friendly transformation of commercial transport.“ The savings of CO2 equivalents are seen as a strong signal for climate protection and quality of life in Vienna.
Commitment of participating companies
A new company that has joined the project is Ankerbrot. Tina Schrettner (2nd from right), Managing Director for Marketing, Retail Sales, and Sustainability, explains: „As a modern company, we take responsibility – for our employees, customers, and the environment. Low-CO2 transport in the city is therefore a central issue for us.“ Ankerbrot plans to gradually transition its fleet to e-mobility, aiming to be emission-free by 2035.
The construction company PORR sees commercial transport as a key lever for the decarbonization of cities. CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss (far right) emphasizes the necessity of joint efforts: „No company can manage this transformation alone. That is why initiatives like ‚Zero Emission Transport‘ are crucial.“ PORR is working to reduce transport and implement alternative drive technologies in its fleet and machinery.
The waste management company Saubermacher has been actively involved in the project since its inception and is already using nine electric trucks in Vienna. Hans Roth (far left), Chairman of the Supervisory Board and founder of Saubermacher, states: „The Zero Emission Transport project is an important impetus for the decarbonization of commercial transport in Vienna.“ He highlights that the initiative shows how companies, the city, and interest groups can jointly develop solutions for climate-friendly logistics.
Overall, the „Zero Emission Transport“ project illustrates how sustainable mobility in commercial transport can be achieved through cooperation and innovative approaches.
