WDP acquires land in France
May 11, 2026 at 10:08 AMThe construction of the China section of the second cross-border railway between China and Mongolia has reached a crucial phase: This was announced on Sunday by the state-owned news portal China Daily, marking a step towards improving bilateral trade and connectivity between the two countries.
Technical details and construction progress
The state-owned China Energy Investment Corp (CHN Energy) is responsible for the investments and construction of the project. The railway will feature a combined single-track design that accommodates both standard and broad gauge, according to the news portal. A total of 760 T-beams are planned along the route. The completion and commissioning of the railway are scheduled for 2027. The facility is expected to provide an annual freight capacity of 30 million tons, which aims to enhance infrastructural connectivity between China and Mongolia and promote economic cooperation.
However, the project faces technical challenges according to China Daily: The construction is taking place in the harsh Gobi Desert, characterized by frequent dust storms and year-round persistent winds. These conditions would complicate the lifting and installation of the beams at great heights. So far, approximately 26% of the substructure has been completed, and 268 T-beams have been manufactured.
