Geis Group Acquires All Shares of Gras Group
Dec 12, 2024 at 8:13 PMThe duisport group strengthens the important mode of transport rail and expands its service portfolio in this segment. The duisport rail GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Duisburger Hafen AG, has acquired 19 locomotives from B & V Leipzig GmbH, which are now in use throughout Germany. In addition, duisport has taken over the locomotive workshop of B & V at Aakerfährstraße in Duisburg along with all employees. This will henceforth operate as “Duisburger Lokservice GmbH” and will continue to offer all repair and maintenance services for locomotives.
(Duisburg) Lars Nennhaus, duisport board member for technology and operations: “The takeover of the locomotive workshop and the significant increase in our own capacities are an important building block for the duisport rail GmbH and the entire duisport group in our growth strategy. With this investment, we emphasize the importance of the rail mode of transport as well as that of the Duisburg port as one of the largest and most important logistics hubs in Europe.”
Locomotive workshop as a neutral service provider
“The locomotive workshop will continue to act as a neutral and reliable partner for all railway companies,” emphasizes Hans-Georg Christiansen, managing director of duisport rail GmbH, who will also become managing director of Duisburger Lokservice GmbH. “We have maintained a long and cooperative relationship with the former owners of the locomotive workshop. Therefore, I am pleased that we can keep the workshop capacities at the site and make them available to all customers. This, combined with the acquisition of the 19 locomotives, most of which are already leased long-term, is an important milestone in positioning duisport rail GmbH for the future.”
Just in September, Vossloh Rolling Stock, together with duisport rail GmbH, presented the “Modula BFC” at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin, a state-of-the-art hybrid battery-hydrogen fuel cell locomotive. It will be used in the Duisburg port in the future – for example, at the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT). It is the largest container terminal in the European hinterland, where completely climate-neutral operations are being tested.
