Baltransa expands fleet with 25 Actros
Jul 1, 2026 at 3:34 PMThe French Groupe Blondel has taken over the logistics services for the shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire. In an environment characterized by an increasing production rate, the collaboration aims to optimize the logistical organization and secure the necessary material flows for the construction of several ships. The goal is to ensure a continuous supply to the construction sites while responding to growing volumes and operational challenges.
Optimization of logistical processes
Groupe Blondel has implemented a comprehensive system for managing logistical processes that encompasses both incoming and outgoing material flows. Materials are received, prepared, and transported on board using mobile cranes or tower cranes. Distribution occurs in the respective work areas, while simultaneously organizing the disposal of waste generated on board. This logistical structure enables the transport of several thousand material packages weekly and the disposal of approximately 3,000 containers. The logistics provider is currently responsible for the logistics of five, soon to be six ships, utilizing storage spaces in Saint-Nazaire and Nantes with a total capacity of 40,000 m².
Digital solutions for efficient production
In addition to operational implementation, Groupe Blondel employs digital tools based on artificial intelligence. These technologies assist in modeling the workload, predicting resource needs, and adjusting resources almost in real-time. This proactive management aims to better balance production peaks and maintain operations despite unforeseen events. Groupe Blondel works closely with a network of specialized partners who are crucial for the realization of these logistical activities.
Groupe Blondel was selected in the summer of 2025 and prepared for the takeover of logistical tasks between June and December 2025. This transition phase leading up to the actual responsibility transfer at the turn of the year allowed for the creation of an agile organization capable of adapting resources to the changing demands of the project. Patrick Duquennoy, Director of the Supply Chain at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, commented on the collaboration: “With Groupe Blondel, we are reaching a new level in managing our logistics. Digitalization allows us improved visibility of our processes. Their ability to anticipate and adapt in real-time strengthens the reliability of our organization in a particularly demanding environment.”
