Jun 18, 2026 at 8:45 AMThe Customs Support Group (CSG) conducted a survey among approximately 150 executives in the field of customs and trade compliance, highlighting the challenges and opportunities arising from access to high-quality customs data. The results of the survey were presented in a statement ahead of the first Customs Support Summit, which took place on June 3 in Amsterdam.
The survey shows that the quality and transparency of customs data are crucial for companies in the manufacturing and retail sectors. These factors are essential for regulatory compliance, resilience to market changes, the use of artificial intelligence, and competitiveness. Nevertheless, many companies reported that they do not have reliable and centrally available customs data. This complicates rapid risk assessment, the utilization of customs savings, and the digitization of processes.
According to the CSG, the collected data indicate that regulatory requirements, trade conflicts, and new sustainability commitments increase the complexity of international trade. In this context, many companies report a lack of reliable data. According to the survey results, 34 percent of respondents view data as the greatest advantage, while 24 percent identify regulatory changes and increasing complexity as the most common challenges. Data quality and visibility were cited as significant issues by 20 percent of respondents. According to the CSG, these two aspects are closely linked for many companies, as efficient management of new trade regulations, sanctions, sustainability requirements, or reporting obligations is hardly possible without reliable data.
