The Mewa Group has appointed Dr. Christian Funk as the new CEO. He will assume his position on August 1, 2026, succeeding Bernhard Niklewitz, who has led the company since 2000 and will leave on May 31, 2026. Dr. Funk brings extensive experience from managing large service companies, particularly in logistics and digitalization.
He has previously held various leadership positions, including at the Boston Consulting Group and the Thomas Cook Group. Since 2020, Funk has been with the Compass Group, where he has served as CEO of Compass Group Germany since 2022. His expertise encompasses both strategic planning and operational implementation, making him a suitable successor for the Mewa Group.
Leadership change in the sign of continuity
The change at the helm of the company is part of a long-term generational shift that underscores the Mewa Group’s ambitions to further expand its market position as a family-owned business. Prof. Dr. Andreas Söffing, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, emphasizes that Dr. Funk will provide important impulses for the next development phase of the company.
The Supervisory Board also acknowledges the contributions of Niklewitz, who has significantly contributed to the economic stability and future viability of the Mewa Group. Gabriele Gebauer, granddaughter of the company founder and honorary chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, explicitly thanks Niklewitz for his long-standing commitment and close ties to the company.
The Mewa Group, headquartered in the Hessian capital Wiesbaden, is a leading provider of operational textiles in Europe and the market leader in Germany. The company offers a comprehensive service for cleaning cloths as well as work and protective clothing, serving over 200,000 B2B customers. In 2025, Mewa achieved a revenue of EUR 967.9 million. The corporate strategy places a strong emphasis on sustainability and quality, which has been recognized through numerous awards.
