Jun 10, 2026 at 10:54 AMThe Open Logistics Foundation has gained a new partner from the IT sector in adesso SE. The Dortmund-based IT service provider brings extensive experience in implementing complex digitization projects and will contribute to making the foundation’s open-source solutions accessible to companies in the logistics industry.
adesso is one of the leading IT service providers in the German-speaking region, employing more than 11,300 staff at over 65 locations worldwide. The company supports clients from various industries in their digital transformation, ranging from strategic consulting to software development and system integration. With its membership in the Open Logistics Foundation, adesso strengthens its commitment to the logistics sector, which is increasingly characterized by digitization and standardization.
Common Goals in Logistics
The Open Logistics Foundation is a neutral, non-profit foundation dedicated to the development of open standards based on open-source code. These standards can be directly utilized, extended, and commercially deployed by companies under the OLF license. The foundation’s goal is to transform the entire industry through genuine digitization at the data and process levels. Successfully addressed challenges include the standardization of track-and-trace processes, the digital consignment note (eCMR), and the exchange of emission data.
adesso will assist logistics companies in integrating and further developing the open-source solutions available in the foundation’s repository into their existing systems. Andreas Nettsträter, CEO of the Open Logistics Foundation, emphasizes: „With adesso, we gain a partner who understands that open standards only work when they are widely adopted.“ The foundation thrives on a growing community that collaboratively works on solutions and on partners who bring these solutions into companies.
Recently, the foundation presented the first industry-ready open-source solution for the digital consignment note. In the implementation within companies, IT service providers like adesso can play a crucial role. The foundation develops open standards and solutions, while adesso acts as a bridge to practice, bringing the experience needed to deploy these in companies. Andreas Prenneis, a board member at adesso, states: „Open source is not a trend for us, but a strategic principle. Those who use and shape open standards retain control over their own technology and create the foundation for interoperability, resilience, and digital sovereignty.“
adesso also brings experience from adjacent sectors such as automotive, retail, and financial services. In these sectors, the company has been accompanying complex digitization projects for years and understands the requirements for interoperable, scalable IT systems. This expertise will now be contributed to the foundation’s open-source community.
