May 20, 2026 at 10:49 AMVolvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S) and DSV have announced the launch of autonomous freight transport in the U.S. state of Texas. The first commercial transport was conducted with the autonomous truck Volvo VNL, with the intention of gradually expanding the service to additional routes.
Integration into existing logistics networks
The Volvo VNL Autonomous was specifically designed for autonomous long-haul transport and is equipped with the Aurora Driver. This collaboration builds on the long-standing relationship between Volvo and DSV, which is based on safety, performance, and progress in logistics transformation. DSV, as a leading provider in the logistics sector, demonstrates how autonomous transport can be integrated into complex, large-scale logistics networks to enhance efficiency, resource utilization, and supply chain resilience.
The autonomous transport services from V.A.S. will initially be offered between the Aurora terminals in Dallas and Houston and integrated into DSV’s existing logistics operations. In the initial phase, a safety driver will be present in the vehicle to support the current operational mode of Volvo. The goal of the collaboration is to improve daily performance while gathering operational experiences that will enable expansion to additional routes.
Opportunities for the logistics industry
“Autonomous driving is moving towards real operational processes,” said Helmut Schweighofer, CEO of DSV Road. “Our collaboration with Volvo in Texas represents a production setup from depot to depot. We see clear opportunities to enhance driver safety and comfort, address the growing driver shortage, and enable better resource utilization through 24/7 operations for the benefit of our customers.”
Sasko Cuklev, Head of On-Road Solutions at V.A.S., emphasized the importance of logistics providers like DSV as a key customer group. “DSV is at the forefront of how autonomous transport can be applied in real logistics networks,” he said. “Starting between Dallas and Houston, we plan to transport freight in a way that supports continuous operations and creates a scalable foundation for adding more routes.”
Autona/freight: A comprehensive ecosystem for autonomous transport
As part of the collaboration, V.A.S. will provide its Autona/freight solution for DSV. Autona/freight is Volvo’s end-to-end solution for autonomous transport, combining the Volvo VNL Autonomous with the self-driving technology of partners Aurora and Waabi, as well as the systems and services required for the operation and management of autonomous freight transport on a large scale.
With over one million miles driven in regional and local freight transport since 2023, V.A.S. brings significant operational experience that supports reliable scaling with logistics providers like DSV.
