May 11, 2026 at 8:15 AMThe software service providers DAKOSY and dbh have completed a significant project for the digitization of container release in the German North Sea ports. According to the companies, a uniform digital release process for the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven has been established within a year. This process enables cross-port processing and replaces the previously used PIN-based procedure, as stated by DAKOSY.
Digitization of container release
The new digital release process is based on a role and authorization management system designed to make the pickup of containers secure and efficient. The digital release is passed from one actor in the transport chain to the next. This facilitates communication among the various stakeholders, including container terminals, shipping companies, as well as freight forwarders and transport companies.
The implementation of the digital system took place in a phased change process that spanned six months. All participating companies were required to adhere to the new standard. According to DAKOSY and dbh, over 700,000 digital releases have already been recorded this year.
