Cargo business contributes to record figures
May 7, 2026 at 8:52 AMInterferry and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) have launched a new program to enhance ferry safety in Lagos. This 18-month mentoring program was recently officially inaugurated and is the first of its kind in Africa, according to Interferry. It aims to promote operational safety, technical competence, and regulatory compliance within the state’s ferry network.
Structure and objectives of the program
The mentoring program is a key outcome of the „Lagos Ferry Safety Conference 2025“ and is conducted under the project „FerrySafe.“ This project by Interferry aims to support safety improvements in developing countries. By combining international maritime expertise with local conditions, a sustainable safety culture is intended to be established. According to Interferry, this culture could serve as a model for other regions, both within and outside Lagos.
„For us, it is of great importance to engage with experts from the global ferry industry and to benefit from their extensive experiences.“
