In March 2026, the airports of the Spanish Aena Group recorded a total freight traffic of 127,610 tons, representing an increase of 0.5% compared to the previous year. Notably, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) had the highest freight volume at 67,133 tons, although this marks a decrease of 5.3% compared to March 2025.
Zaragoza Airport (ZAZ) set a new monthly record with 18,430 tons, achieving an increase of 29.6%. Spain’s number two, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), transported 16,128 tons, which corresponds to a decrease of 1.4%.
In total, 325,926 tons of freight have already been transported at Aena airports in the country during the first three months of 2026, representing an increase of 5.5% compared to the same period last year.
Freight traffic in Brazil and London
The 17 Aena airports in Brazil handled 12,075 tons of freight in March, reflecting an increase of 16.3% compared to the previous year. Notably, Recife Airport (REC) and Congonhas Airport (CGH) showed significant increases in freight traffic (+11.1% to 4,993 tons and +14.4% to 4,945 tons, respectively). Between January and March 2026, the Brazilian Aena locations processed a total of 34,054 tons of air freight, 10.9% more than in the first quarter of the previous year.
At London Luton Airport (LTN), also operated by Aena, 1,340 tons of air freight and mail were recorded in March, representing a sharp decline (-46.3%) compared to the same month last year. In the first quarter, the total amounts to 3,435 tons (-51.8%). The decline is attributed to the nighttime closure of the runway due to resurfacing work.
