Apr 10, 2026 at 10:09 AMThe government of New Jersey has announced the allocation of funding totaling $26.3 million for the fiscal year 2026. These funds come from the freight rail grant program and are intended to support safety and economic activity in the state, as stated by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. A total of 11 projects will be funded, aimed at maintaining and improving the existing freight transportation system. This is intended to make freight rail more accessible for businesses in New Jersey.
Projects for rail freight
The funded projects span ten counties and include various measures. These include improvements to rail connections at seaport terminals, the rehabilitation and repair of several railway bridges, and capacity expansions at port facilities. Additionally, the laying of tracks, ties, and surface improvements on a railway line are part of the measures. These investments are expected to not only enhance the efficiency of freight rail but also support the state’s goals in clean energy, traffic relief, and sustainable development.
