Oct 25, 2021 at 5:32 PMDue to the increasing customer demand for temperature-controlled logistics solutions and the growing importance of the pharmaceutical sector, the CHI Group is realigning its product strategy. To this end, CHI has strengthened its team with Johannes Fehl. Fehl will henceforth develop the product further as Head of Cold Chain Solutions and will be responsible for the realignment of CHI in the area of Cold Chain Solutions.
(Frankfurt/Main) Johannes Fehl was previously responsible for global logistics and customer service at DoKaSch Temperature Solutions for six years, where he notably drove global expansion.
The CHI Group has been storing Moderna vaccine at -20 °C in its pharmaceutical goods warehouse at Frankfurt Airport on behalf of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior since the beginning of the year. From here, all 28 vaccination centers in Hesse were regularly supplied. In total, the company has distributed more than 800,000 vaccine doses. The Hessian vaccination centers were closed on September 30. Since then, general practitioners, specialists, and company doctors have been at the center of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in cooperation with pharmacies.
High Demands on Logistics Service Providers
The storage and transport of pharmaceutical goods place high demands on logistics service providers. For instance, the cold chain must not be interrupted at any time, and the specified temperature of -20 °C must be consistently maintained. In addition to the Moderna business, CHI has also maintained a redundancy warehouse for the BioNtech vaccine for the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. This vaccine must be stored at -70 °C. A particular challenge was to create an infrastructure in the shortest possible time that met the product requirements.
At the same time, specific security requirements for the logistical processes had to be implemented in coordination with the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (HLKA). “We are pleased that we could contribute our experience in the handling of pharmaceutical goods and thus support the state of Hesse in combating the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Dominik Mißkampf, Head of Business Development, CHI Deutschland Cargo Handling GmbH.
GDP Certified Infrastructure and Services
The CHI Group has a total of 13,000 m² of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical storage space at Frankfurt Airport or in its immediate vicinity. In conjunction with temperature-controlled vehicles of various sizes and specially trained personnel, CHI offers a high level of value creation for the handling and transport of pharmaceutical goods. Additionally, CHI provides value-added services, such as packaging services or order picking, depending on customer needs. The high quality level was recently confirmed by GDP certification from independent third parties.
