(Hamburg) Nearly 2,000 container train connections are offered weekly by railway companies to and from the Port of Hamburg. An updated overview of the connections is available on the website. The operator Hafen Hamburg Marketing has updated and launched the online database live. For companies looking for suitable providers for container transport for their imports or exports by rail, all connections are quickly accessible.
60,000 Accesses
With this service for shippers in Germany and abroad, Germany’s largest universal port underscores its leading position as a frontrunner among European railway ports. Half of all containerized rail transports from the most significant North Range ports were handled via Hamburg in the container hinterland transport by rail last year. “In the past year alone, there were around 60,000 accesses to our database. This shows how well the service is received,” says Ingo Egloff, board member at Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V.160 railway companies and various resellers offer connections in container and combined transport to almost all economic regions in the German inland as well as throughout Europe and beyond. Among the most significant destinations abroad are connections to the Czech Republic, Austria, and Poland, in addition to China. The most important federal states in the German seaport hinterland transport by rail are Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Hesse, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
34.2 Million Tons by Rail
A total of 34.2 million tons of goods of all kinds were transported by rail between the Port of Hamburg and terminals in the inland from January to September 2020. This is only 6.5 percent less than in the corresponding period a year ago. In container transport, the transport volume of the Hamburg port railway in the first nine months of the year fell short of the previous year’s level by 6.8 percent, with 1.9 million TEU. From January to September, just over 44,400 trains with nearly 1.2 million freight cars were moved over the railway network of the port railway.
