Nov 26, 2020 at 5:10 PMOh Christmas Tree: Mercedes Benz and the Berlin start-up WunderTree deliver Christmas trees in Berlin and Potsdam emission-free. The initiative is sustainably multifaceted, as the trees will be picked up after Christmas and replanted. A total of eight eSprinter vans are being used for this initiative.
(Berlin) The Berlin start-up WunderTree, which is committed to a more sustainable Christmas, has partnered with the Mercedes-Benz branch in Berlin. Thanks to this cooperation, individuals and companies can have sustainable Christmas trees in plant pots delivered locally emission-free by Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vehicles and conveniently picked up again.
Every year, over 30 million Christmas trees are cut down, set up in businesses and private households, thrown away, and finally burned. This process emits up to 450,000 tons of CO2 emissions. WunderTree, a member of the global alliance of sustainable technology companies Greentech Alliance, has made it its mission to tackle this problem. Every Christmas tree purchased through WunderTree will be picked up after the holidays and replanted in forests. This climate-friendly approach saves emissions while also creating a long-term positive effect through reforestation.
eSprinter Vans
WunderTree has found an exclusive partner in the Mercedes-Benz branch in Berlin, which supports both the delivery and pickup of Christmas trees in Berlin and Potsdam. A total of eight Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans will be made available for this purpose. The electrically powered fleet enables locally emission-free delivery of the Christmas trees. The trees will be delivered between November 27 and December 18, and picked up again between January 2 and 9, 2021.
Constanze Fath, Sales Manager Vans at the Mercedes-Benz branch in Berlin: “We are very pleased that WunderTree will be using our eSprinter. With the eSprinter, we have a locally emission-free vehicle in our portfolio that is very well suited to the requirements of WunderTree for the delivery of sustainable Christmas trees in Berlin and Potsdam in terms of its equipment and range.”
Sustainable Business Model of WunderTree
Andrew Green, co-founder of WunderTree and co-founder of the Greentech Alliance, welcomes this new partnership: “I am very excited about our cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz branch in Berlin. It is great to see that a rapidly growing start-up like ours was able to convince one of Germany’s oldest car manufacturers of our business model and the vision behind it. I am also very grateful to have a partner by our side who is committed to a sustainable future. This way, we can deliver our Christmas trees locally emission-free this year and pick them up again in January.”
About the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter
The eSprinter vans with a permissible total weight of 3,500 kilograms in high-roof version have a usable battery capacity of 47 kWh with a range of 168 km[1], [2] and a maximum payload of 891 kilograms. The integrated fast-charging function provides flexibility, allowing the battery to be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 25 minutes. The loading volume of 11 m³ is fully usable, as the batteries are installed in the underbody. The electric drive powers the front wheels and delivers 85 kW with a torque of up to 295 Nm.
[1] The range was determined based on Regulation (EC) No. 692/2008. The range depends on the vehicle configuration.
[2] The actual range also depends on individual driving behavior, road and traffic conditions, outside temperature, use of air conditioning/heating, etc., and may vary.
About WunderTree
The Berlin start-up WunderTree was founded in 2019 to rethink the traditional sale of Christmas trees. With WunderTree, individuals and companies in Berlin and Potsdam can conveniently purchase living Christmas trees in pots online, which are delivered to their doorstep. These will be picked up again after the Christmas season and replanted alongside native trees in a forest outside of Berlin. This creates an alternative in the form of a circular economy model. The young company not only digitizes the Christmas tree sales with its business but also makes a positive contribution to the climate and the forest ecosystem in Brandenburg. More information at
