Nov 6, 2020 at 7:30 AMROSTOCK PORT GmbH is creating new logistics areas near the busy ferry and RoRo terminal. The approximately 70,000 square meter area will be managed by Autolink Germany in the future. A new underpass currently under construction will create new opportunities.
(Rostock) – “As part of its infrastructure and development function, ROSTOCK PORT will enhance approximately 70,000 square meters of port area from the port entrance to the harbor basin A for the reception of rolling cargo of all kinds in the coming months,” announces ROSTOCK PORT Managing Director Dr. Gernot Tesch.
The newly created logistics areas near the busy ferry and RoRo terminal will be managed in the future by the renowned company Autolink Germany. To connect two separate areas through the main port access and exit, ROSTOCK PORT is currently constructing an underpass beneath the four-lane road.
Multimodal hub as the main goal
The main goal of the establishment is to expand the Rostock port into a multimodal logistics hub, increase the depth of value creation through new logistics services, and expand the range of offerings.
Rail connection enables environmentally friendly further transport
In addition, the new terminal areas will receive a powerful, direct rail connection that ensures environmentally friendly transport by rail and further improves the competitiveness of the most important railway port on the German Baltic Sea coast. With the already completed construction of berth 50, the cross quay in harbor basin A, with two new RoRo ramps, the largest RoRo ships in the Baltic Sea can be handled here.
“Through our close cooperation with ROSTOCK PORT, we have succeeded in rapidly advancing this project together. DB Netz AG has thus created the infrastructural prerequisites in a short time and in an unconventional manner to handle future traffic for our customers with high quality,” informs Renado Kropp, Head of Operations, Timetable, Sales, and Capacity Management of DB Netz AG in the Eastern Regional Area.
Rostock is perfectly connected to the hinterland
“ROSTOCK PORT is continuously developing its already very diversified business model and is striving to add further stable pillars to this model. Therefore, we are very pleased to have won Autolink Germany as the operator of the new logistics terminal after the tender process,” says ROSTOCK PORT Managing Director Dr. Gernot Tesch.
Arnd Brockmüller, Managing Director of Autolink Germany GmbH, states: “From Autolink’s perspective, Rostock is perfectly connected to the hinterland by road and especially by rail. In recent years, we have observed a steady shift in automobile production towards the east, i.e., into the Rostock hinterland. Therefore, we are pleased to be able to establish the first Autolink terminal in Germany in Rostock, alongside the existing terminals and branches in the Baltic Sea region (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Lithuania). Rostock is to become our hub for traffic to Northern and Eastern Europe.”
