Jan Fransen receives Sleepanker in Rotterdam
Jul 10, 2026 at 8:21 AMOn September 1, 2026, Paul Foreman (r.) will assume the position of CEO at PD Ports. He succeeds Frans Calje, who is stepping down after nearly ten years at the helm of the company and more than 18 years at PD Ports in total. Foreman, who currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, was selected for the new role following a selection process.
The leadership change comes at a critical time for PD Ports, which is pursuing ambitious plans to accelerate growth, optimize services for customers, and adapt to the changing demands of the industry and technology. The company continues to invest in expansion and modernization.
PD Ports operates Teesport, the largest port in the northeast of England, contributing £1.4 billion annually to the Teesside economy. The company supports 22,000 jobs across the supply chain and directly employs more than 1,400 staff at eleven locations in the United Kingdom. As the statutory harbor authority for the River Tees, PD Ports ensures the safety and navigability of the river, contributing to the economic development of many other businesses.
Calje commented on his resignation, emphasizing, „I have always said that a period of ten years would be in the best interest of the company to gain a fresh perspective and new direction. The time is therefore right for a leadership change to drive the growth and development of PD Ports.“ He expressed pride in leaving a company that is safer and more stable, looking towards a sustainable future.
Becky Lumlock, Operating Partner at Brookfield Asset Management, which holds 51% of PD Ports, thanked Calje on behalf of the company for his integrity-driven leadership and the significant growth momentum of the past decade. She expressed confidence in Foreman’s appointment and his strategic thinking, which has already played a central role in the company’s long-term planning.
Foreman himself stated:
“I am excited and honored to succeed Frans, who has achieved so much during his time here. I am grateful for his support and look forward to leading this company, which is vital for the prosperity of Teesside.”
Additionally, Jerry Hopkinson, the current Executive Chairman, will transition to a role as Non-Executive Chairman starting September 1. In this capacity, he will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to the company and ensure governance.
Hopkinson emphasized the importance of PD Ports to the region and its potential for the future. He expressed confidence that under Foreman’s leadership, the strengths of the infrastructure and the commitment of the employees will continue to advance the company.
