Jul 2, 2026 at 9:35 AMThe Deutsche Bahn AG has put a new container depot area into operation at the Ulm-Dornstadt location. With the expansion of approximately 38,000 square meters, which corresponds to more than five football fields, the existing container depot is being enlarged. This additional area is intended to provide improved parking options for loaded and empty containers and to support combined transport, as the company reports.
Expansion strengthens regional logistics
Ralf-Günter Kloß, Board Member for Combined Transport at DB Cargo AG, comments on the advantages of the new depot area: “With the new depot area in Ulm-Dornstadt, we are creating space today for the volumes of tomorrow. This strengthens combined transport in the region and makes logistics more predictable for our customers.”
Martin Ansbacher, Mayor of the City of Ulm, emphasized the role of containers as essential components of the regional economy: “Containers are the baskets of goods for our strong regional economy and a symbol of our vibrant export-oriented industry between the Alb and Upper Swabia. We are pleased to have supported the expansion for the capacity increase of DB Intermodal Services. Today is a good day for climate-friendly freight transport by rail!” said Ansbacher.
Deutsche Bahn realized the new area in a construction period of about nine months. According to the company, numerous shipping companies, freight forwarders, and loading companies from the region are now utilizing the expanded capacities. The additional area contributes to flexibility in the provision and acceptance of containers and reduces the risk of bottlenecks in logistics processes.
