Stephan Wittenbrink becomes COO of the Fiege Group
Jul 1, 2026 at 6:25 AMThe Rhenus Group has established its own department for humanitarian aid and support in the United Arab Emirates. This step creates a strategic logistics center aimed at quickly mobilizing life-saving supplies. The new department is part of Dubai Humanitarian, the world’s largest humanitarian hub, and is intended to strengthen Rhenus’s role in crisis logistics.
The establishment of the department comes at a time when humanitarian organizations are increasingly under pressure to respond more quickly to geopolitical conflicts, climate-related disasters, and ongoing disruptions in supply chains. Through membership in this network, Rhenus will be able to collaborate in real-time with UN agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and global partners to accelerate the delivery of critical goods worldwide.
Structured response models for crisis situations
The new department in the UAE introduces a structured model for rapid responses aimed at increasing speed, predictability, and complete transparency in emergency logistics. This integrated concept is designed to expedite the delivery of essential goods such as medical supplies, food, hygiene kits, and construction materials to high-risk and crisis areas.
Sayid Kunhipurayil (center), Logistics Development Manager – Middle East at Rhenus, commented on the challenges in humanitarian logistics:
“The complexity and urgency in humanitarian logistics are increasing. This specialized structure enables more efficient coordination and ensures complete transparency and compliance throughout the supply chain.”
Dubai as a global hub for emergency logistics
By establishing the humanitarian aid department in the UAE, Rhenus is leveraging one of the best-connected logistics locations in the world to enable rapid deliveries to the Middle East, Africa, Europe, America, and the Asia-Pacific region. The hub combines air freight capacities for urgent deployments, sea freight for sustainable aid supply chains, and road transport for quick regional and last-mile deliveries.
This end-to-end integration within the global Rhenus network provides humanitarian partners with a unified, scalable platform for crisis response.
Increasing Demand for Humanitarian Logistics
The establishment of the new department occurs against the backdrop of rising demand for humanitarian logistics, exacerbated by overlapping crises and constrained supply chains. A centralized control center in Dubai offers a more reliable and agile solution in environments where delays can have serious consequences.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO and board member of Dubai Humanitarian, welcomed Rhenus to the community and emphasized the importance of partnerships between the private sector and the humanitarian world. Hassan Alzeer, Managing Director of Rhenus in the Middle East, added: “The presence in the UAE and within Dubai Humanitarian strengthens the ability to ensure the uninterrupted movement of vital goods.”
With this initiative, Rhenus solidifies its position as a key player in global humanitarian supply chains, combining operational scalability with specialized expertise to meet the evolving demands of crisis response logistics.
