Jun 30, 2026 at 12:09 PMMerus Power has signed a contract with Siemens Mobility Denmark to deliver a „Merus STATCOM compensator.“ This compensator will be used in a battery-powered charging station for trains to manage power quality. According to a statement, providing charging infrastructure for battery-powered trains presents a new challenge for Merus Power. The electrification of transport offers potential for significant reductions in CO₂ emissions but also brings increased demands on the stability of the power grid. The „Merus STATCOM compensator“ is intended to ensure that grid quality remains stable even during short-term and high loads during the charging process.
„The electrification of rail transport is advancing in Europe, and at the same time, power quality is becoming increasingly important. A battery-powered charging station for trains is a good example of a new application where the stability and reliability of the power grid are crucial.“
– Kari Tuomala, CEO of Merus Power Plc
According to Merus Power, the price for a compensator of this size and capacity is approximately 2 million euros. The delivery of the system is planned for 2027, while commissioning within the project is expected to take place in 2028.
