Jun 3, 2026 at 11:20 AMSaronic has announced the launch of its first unmanned surface vessel (USV) of the „Marauder class.“ This ship has been designed for use in coastal areas as well as for a variety of defense and commercial applications. According to Saronic, the entire development process, from the initial design phase to sea trials, was completed within one year. This represents a timeframe that has not been achieved in American shipbuilding since World War II.
Technical specifications and applications
The „Marauder“ is designed, according to manufacturer information, for prolonged and demanding missions where crews are exposed to risks. The vessel can be operated either fully autonomously or under remote supervision and can operate far from the coast. This reduces the need for a complete crew and the associated dangers.
With a maximum speed of over 25 knots and a range of up to 5,400 nautical miles, the Marauder is capable, according to Saronic, of quickly changing its position and conducting operations over long distances. The payload capacity is 150 tons, with the ship configurable for up to four 40-foot or eight 20-foot ISO containers. This is intended to allow operators to tailor the vessel’s mission load to their needs. Possible applications include logistics, research, maritime situational awareness, reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), as well as other payloads without requiring modifications to the platform.
