Wallenius Wilhelmsen expands services in the North
Jun 1, 2026 at 2:44 PMLATAM Cargo has launched a new direct freight connection between Frankfurt and Antofagasta in Chile on May 23. This weekly service allows for the transport of up to 25 tons of cargo per week and aims to meet the logistical demands of the northern region of the South American country, particularly the mining industry.
The new route connects Frankfurt/Main Airport (FRA) with Andrés Sabella Airport (ANF) in Antofagasta and optimizes transit times by eliminating the need for land transport or additional transfers. This represents a significant improvement for companies that rely on fast and reliable logistics solutions.
Jorge Carretero, Cargo Sales Director for Europe at LATAM, stated: “The introduction of the Frankfurt-Antofagasta route is the result of targeted efforts to create tailored solutions that provide real added value to our customers‘ supply chains.” He emphasized that the northern region of Chile hosts numerous mining and industrial projects that require precise logistics.
Strengthening intercontinental connections
With the new connection, LATAM Cargo reinforces its strategy to strengthen intercontinental corridors. The airline not only offers stable flight schedules and exclusive capacities but also the necessary logistical flexibility to meet the economic needs of the productive sectors in the region. This initiative aims to promote international trade and support economic development.
LATAM Cargo is part of the LATAM Group and operates a fleet of 20 cargo aircraft in addition to the new freight connection. The subsidiaries LATAM Cargo Colombia and LATAM Cargo Brasil complement the offering by utilizing both cargo capacities on passenger aircraft and on dedicated freight routes.
The opening of the direct connection between Europe and Northern Chile represents another step in the company’s expansion and demonstrates LATAM Cargo’s commitment to meeting market demands.
