May 20, 2026 at 8:20 AMFrankfurt Cargo Services (FCS) opened its new Pharma Center at Frankfurt Airport on May 12, 2026. The completion of the construction work after nearly two years, carried out during ongoing operations, marks a significant step in the company’s development, quadrupling the area for handling temperature-controlled cargo. This optimizes pharmaceutical handling at Germany’s largest air freight hub.
The new Pharma Center covers an area of approximately 3,300 m², where FCS now manages all aspects of pharmaceutical handling. This includes the acceptance and delivery of temperature-controlled cargo, storage, as well as the breaking down and building of entire pallets. These measures aim not only to shorten transport routes but also to avoid transport times in uncontrolled environments. Additionally, the facility allows for the acceptance of loose cargo directly in a temperature-controlled storage area, as well as the temperature-controlled assembly of entire pallets. Designated storage spaces with appropriate power supply are available for active loading equipment, such as containers.
Expanded storage capacities for controlled temperatures
The new Pharma Center covers both the CRT (Controlled Room Temperature Storage) area with a temperature range of 15 to 25 °C and the COL (Controlled Cool Storage) area with a temperature range of 2 to 8 °C. Thomas Schürmann, Managing Director of Frankfurt Cargo Services, commented on the new possibilities: “Pharmaceutical handling is one of the largest growth areas in our industry. I am pleased that with our new Pharma Center, we not only provide optimal conditions to ensure an absolutely controlled environment at all times during processing but are also well-equipped for further growth with a significantly expanded area.”
FCS Frankfurt Cargo Services is a subsidiary of WFS Worldwide Flight Services, which is part of the SATS Group, the world’s largest cargo handling company. Additionally, FCS is a partner of Fraport AG, the operator of Frankfurt Airport. With around 700 employees, FCS handles approximately 750,000 tons of air freight annually for more than 50 international airlines.
