May 15, 2026 at 8:08 AMLeapmotor International (LPMI), a joint venture between Stellantis and Leapmotor, has announced the expansion of its logistics partnership with the Grimaldi Group. In the past 18 months, nearly 100,000 vehicles have been transported from China to Europe, including over 20,000 units in the first quarter of 2026.
Efficient logistics solutions through structured programs
The logistics operations were realized through a structured program of 15 sea voyages in the first quarter of 2026. This program connects China with key European seaports such as Antwerp, Bristol, Valencia, Vigo, Setúbal, Livorno, Civitavecchia, and Gioia Tauro. The partnership with the Grimaldi Group enables LPMI to effectively manage complex and large-scale supply chains and offer integrated logistics solutions.
The Grimaldi Group relies on a modern fleet of Pure Car & Truck Carriers (PCTC), which includes ships such as Grande Svezia, Grande Michigan, Grande Istanbul, and Grande Tianjin. These ships are part of a comprehensive investment in 17 new PCTCs, each with capacities of over 9,000 CEU (Car Equivalent Units). In line with the maritime industry’s goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, these ships are also ammonia-ready, supporting the reduction of the CO2 footprint in global vehicle distribution.
Integrated infrastructure and services
In addition to maritime transport, the partnership benefits from the Grimaldi Group’s integrated logistics platform and significant infrastructure investments in key European ports. These facilities, including central hubs in Italy and other strategic locations in Europe, play a crucial role in supporting operations. With nearly 6 million m² of equipped port areas, they enable efficient vehicle handling processes, including preparation, maintenance, and battery charging.
Strategic vision with three pillars
At the core of the initiative is LPMI’s advanced logistics planning and coordination, allowing the company to manage increasing volumes and operational complexity. The program is based on three main pillars:
1. End-to-End Planning and Synchronization of the Supply Chain: Leapmotor’s production in China is closely aligned with maritime capacity and terminal availability. This enables tailored solutions to respond to strong market demand and strengthen the position within the Stellantis system.
2. Integrated Coordination of the Supply Chain: Close coordination of maritime and inland operations ensures rapid vehicle flows through European ports, handling peak volumes of over 5,400 units per ship call. Continuous coordination among all stakeholders – shipping companies, terminal operators, road transport providers, and customs authorities – is crucial for maintaining efficiency and reliability.
3. Operational Discipline and Continuous Improvement: Detailed planning and ongoing optimization of processes ensure consistent performance and secure on-site activities. This enhances operational efficiency and robust execution throughout the entire logistics chain.
Alessandro Furnò, VP Global Supply Chain & Purchasing at LPMI, emphasizes: “Logistics is a critical differentiator and a strategic tool for competitiveness in the modern automotive sector. Our ability to lead such a complex ecosystem – supported by a trusted partner like the Grimaldi Group – is a cornerstone of our commercial success.”
