Grimaldi: expanded LPMI logistics partnership
May 15, 2026 at 7:38 AMOn May 13, 2026, the new Logistics Center 2 of the Swiss logistics company Galliker was officially opened at the location in S. Antonino, Ticino. Among the invited guests was Fabio Regazzi, a member of the Cantonal Council of Ticino. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the modern building as well as the associated logistics processes and services. With this expansion, Galliker is responding to the increasing demand for specialized logistics spaces in southern Switzerland and is increasing its capacity by approximately 13,279 m².
Multifunctional logistics center
The new logistics center has been designed as a multifunctional building that can flexibly respond to various customer needs and product groups. It offers two floors for the storage of goods in different temperature ranges, including Ambient, Fresh, and Frigo. Goods handling takes place via 24 loading ramps on the ground floor, while two powerful goods lifts and two pallet lifts ensure material flow between the floors. Additionally, modern office spaces, social rooms, and a break room are available.
The logistics center is equipped with an advanced energy system that aligns with the „Green Logistics by Galliker“ strategy. The energy supply is provided, among other things, by a photovoltaic system on the roof with a capacity of 1.17 MWp, as well as by the use of groundwater for heating and cooling processes.
Integration of sustainable solutions
Together with the existing Logistics Center 1, the location in S. Antonino is developing into a comprehensive „Net Zero“ system. This system includes a medium-voltage area network, two photovoltaic systems with an annual electricity production of over 2 GWh, a large battery storage system, and an e-charging infrastructure with a future total of 53 charging points. In this way, renewable energies, electricity storage, intelligent control, and sustainable mobility are efficiently interconnected. All self-produced electricity from the PV systems can be used directly on-site for building management or for emissions-free transport.
The expanded charging infrastructure enables the supply of the already over 50% electrified truck fleet at the S. Antonino location. Furthermore, the integration of electric trucks into cross-border traffic between Italy and Switzerland is being promoted. In combination with the existing rail connection, Galliker contributes to making the supply chain sustainable. Especially for the transport of sensitive goods, such as hazardous materials, rail transport through the Gotthard Tunnel offers a significant safety advantage compared to road transport.
With this targeted expansion, Galliker strengthens its presence in Ticino and sets a benchmark for innovation and sustainability along the Gotthard route. Additionally, new jobs and further training and development opportunities are being created in the region. The opening of the logistics center in S. Antonino thus represents a significant step in the company’s history and underscores the ongoing expansion of modern logistics solutions.
